Stephen Thorpe - Moko Mon Cat Series Prints

The Moko-Mon Cat series were inspired by renowned Japanese Tattooist and Artist Horitomo, and his infamous MonMon cats. Horitomo’s original prints were created as a fun project, at the same time they represented a goal to slowly normalise the indigenous-
art form of Japanese Tattoo, as it was outlawed for so long. This inspired Stephen to take a similar approach with indigenous Maori Tattoo (Moko).

Each individual Moko-Mon print is a direct representation of Horitomo's original MonMon Cats, to uphold the respect and integrity of the artist, then remodified with Moko, Maori motifs and aspects of the native environment of New Zealand.
